The YKLI in Space Student Team has designed a patch that will travel aboard the final mission of space shuttle Atlantis alongside the student-designed zero-gravity experiments. The patch project encouraged students to create a visual representation of the essence of space exploration and experimentation. The YKLI patch is the ultimate expression of “out-of-the-box” thinking. The space shuttle image extends beyond the limits of the typical circular patch, literally breaking out of pre-conceived expectations. The shuttle is pointing straight up, indicating the infinite possibilities one sees when one looks into the sky. The different shades of blue represent the incremental growth on the upward continuum as the students reach for the stars.
