Students from throughout our schools researched, designed and proposed over 70 complete for submission to the Student Spaceflight Experiment Program (SSEP) for a chance to have their experiment launched on the space shuttle flight this spring. The top 26 proposals identified included a variety of grade level proposals as well as representation from all of the participating schools. A seven-member SSEP Local Review Team, including consulting engineers as well as representatives from GLOBALFOUNDRIES and Children’s Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST), then ranked the proposals based on a complete review of the information compiled and put forth by the students.
“All of the students that participated in this program should be congratulated. This was truly community endeavor.”, said K-12 Science Coordinator Diane Irwin. “We had over 140 proposals started and 70 being submitted for Formal Step 1 Review.”
“The entire Ballston Spa community and our corporate partners at GLOBALFOUNDRIES celebrate the participation of our students in this national spaceflight project”, said Superintendent of Schools Joseph P. Dragone, Ph.D. “This type of learning is an example of what needs to take place in our classrooms to engage students in the skills necessary to be successful in their future education and the workplace of the 21st Century.”
